LEADER OF THE LAND was 2-2 over C&D before this and didn´t see out the extra furlong in first-time cheekpieces at Newmarket last time. Without the headgear here, he travelled very smoothly behind the leaders back under his optimum conditions, but after taking over in front over 2f from home he had to battle very hard to ward off the runner-up. He displayed plenty of guts to grind out victory, however, and will always be worthy of respect over this trip on a sound surface. His trainer is now 6-7 with his runners here and this colt has provided three of those wins. |

Leader Of The Land posted a brave effort and was only just held in this quest for a fourth win of the campaign. He was 7lb higher than when winning at Beverley last time out and returning to a stiffer track could well see him back in the winner´s enclosure.

With only four taking part and no confirmed front-runner, this promised to be a tactical affair, but in actual fact Meetings Man and Corr Point took each other on, set a strong pace in front, and rather set things up for the favourite LEADER OF THE LAND, who´d been held up in last place for most of the race.
He cruised through to challenge them turning into the straight and his rider was looking round with 2f to run. He only had to be shaken up to draw well clear and was eased right down inside the last.
He was 4lb well in at the weights and did have things very much drop his way, but he´s a progressive colt and can take higher rank. He´s had four runs quite close together, so will probably have a bit of a break now.

Leader Of The Land, lightly raced, has struck form with a vengeance and was only just pipped. An improving sort, he would have a good chance of gaining compensation as long as the handicapper does not go overboard. |

LEADER OF THE LAND was well backed when making his handicap and seasonal debut over 1m2f last time, and was sent off favourite again. The blinkers were left off for this step up in distance but his rider´s decision to take a prominent position early in the back straight was probably the deciding factor here. He came through to get the better of the long-time leader inside the last and was going away at the finish, suggesting there may be more to come now he is off the mark. |

Leader Of The Land had been well beaten in two previous starts but hinted at a little better in this, staying on well in the latter stages.
