It's another win for Cape!

2nd October 2009

CONNECTIONS reaped the benefit of stepping Cape Marien up in trip as she ran out a convincing winner of a 1m 6f handicap at Wolverhampton tonight.

The half-sister to Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Marienbard was far too good for her rivals, grinding them into the dust for her second career success.

She was given an astute ride by jockey Darryll Holland who always had his mount handy in an event where it suited to race close to the pace.

There wasn't much speed on early which was always going to make it difficult for the hold-up horses. Holland, though, had the daughter of Cape Cross tracking the long-time leader Stormy Morning from an early point in the race and she always moved smoothly for him.

When Stormy Morning fell away Cape Marien was on the premises and pounced to grab the lead off Galiotto approaching the final furlong.

The 7/2 favourite then stayed on well through the closing strides to score by four lengths for owner Saif Ali and trainer David Lanigan.

This triumph followed a second place effort at Kempton and further enhanced her future prospects in the paddocks. Earlier in the season she had broken her maiden tag over 1m 4f at Windsor.
