More joy for the Don
5th September 2009
THE Last Don maintained his progress with a third win from his last four starts at Kempton this afternoon.
Trainer David Lanigan’s charge, successful over 1m 4f at Newmarket on his previous outing, had no problem in stepping up in trip to 2m.
He even got home despite shaping a little keen through the early strides as jockey Tadhg O’Shea strove to hold him up.
The Last Don was also somewhat hampered in the early stages and, indeed, was one of the first to be pushed along.
But connections needn't have worried as the son of Redback was simply in the process of going through the gears.
The 5/1 chance was soon making relentless progress and took over at the head of affairs inside the final furlong.
With The Last Don perhaps imagining the job was done, O’Shea needed to keep him up to his work to secure a three parts of a length win from Ermyn Lodge.
