Diamond filly goes in at Haydock
7th August 2009
DIAMOND Duchess maintained the good form of the David Lanigan-trained two-year-olds as she landed a 1m maiden at Haydock yesterday.
It was a case of third time lucky for the Dubawi filly who had shaped with promise on her two previous racecourse appearances.
Stepped up slightly in trip, Saif Ali's Diamond Duchess was sent in pursuit of the leaders early on by jockey Robert Winston.
She edged into second spot as they approached the final three furlongs and grabbed the lead off Mark Anthony with 200 metres to go.
Diamond Duchess really knuckled down to see the job through and held off the late thrust of Music Of The Moor for a neck success at odds of 9/4.
