Wannabe King to head for a nursery

11th August 2008

WANNABE King will be targeted at a nursery after his battling maiden win at Yarmouth last month.

Trainer David Lanigan just had to ease off the two-year-old son of King’s Best who returned a little sore from his first career victory.

Lanigan explained: “He came back jarred from Yarmouth so had two weeks trotting and then started cantering again last Monday.

“I was pleased to see the form of his Yarmouth race boosted by the fourth-placed of Luca Cumani’s winning at Leicester over the weekend.

“Wannabe King has been handed a mark of 78 which is fair and hopefully we’ll be able to find a nursery for him to win next.”

Speaking about his two-year-olds, Lanigan felt the Rahy colt Murhee will progress significantly for his debut in a 7f maiden at Newmarket last Friday.

Paddock inspection revealed them to be a nice-looking, scopey bunch and Murhee acquitted himself well enough - especially early on - before signs of green-ness at the business end of the race.

Revida Place will also be starting off a several other two-year-olds in the next month or so. Lanigan is pleased with the development of the Dubai Destination ex Noble Lily, who will probably start off at 7f in the not-too distant future.

Captain Churchill, the Captain Rio gelding, is currently also being prepared for his racecourse bow with a 6f maiden on his agenda. Lanigan is especially sweet on a Pivotal colt called Ottoman Empire.

He said: “He is a nice horse who will go for a 7f or 1m maiden in the next month or so and will improve a ton for the race.”
