Front-running Mazaaya scoops Leicester prize
11th August 2008
The three-year-old daughter of Cozzene was given a fine front-running ride by Richard Hills, who judged the pace to perfection.
Dropped back in trip after being well beaten at Windsor over 1m 4f, she relished bowling along at the head of affairs and Hills kept something in reserve for the closing stages.
Marvo laid down the most concerted challenge but Saif Ali’s Mazaaya was never going to be passed and came home with a length to spare.
Trainer David Lanigan said: “She enjoyed being out in front and won nicely. We thought she would run very well against the older horses at this time of the year and she’s done it well. There isn’t a plan at the moment - we will just see what the handicapper does and go from there.”
