Ben Chorley out of York race
8th July 2008
DAVID LANIGAN has ruled out Ben Chorley from running in this Saturday's John Smith's Cup.
The grey has won each of his three starts for the first-season trainer and was on course for a tilt at York's prestigious 1m 2f handicap.
But a small setback has meant Lanigan won't risk the four-year-old this weekend.
He said: "Ben Chorley just has a minor problem and I'm not going to be able to work him tomorrow (Wednesday) as I'd planned.
"With that in mind, I wouldn't want to compromise the horse for the rest of the season and so I feel it is sensible not to run on Saturday.
"In these situations you have to do what's right for the horse. I could probably run him and he'd be okay but it's not wise to take that risk.
"Hopefully, he'll be in full work again next week and it's still only July, so there are plenty of opportunities for him over the coming months."
