Haydock test for Freedom
2nd July 2008
DAVID LANIGAN is set to campaign New Freedom this Saturday in a six-furlong conditions stakes at Haydock.
The Brazilian-bred of owner Saif Ali’s made a creditable British debut when ninth of 27, beaten less than four lengths in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot.
Now the seven-year-old returns to the track to face 12 rivals with the reigning champion jockey Seb Sanders booked.
Lanigan said: “New Freedom ran a good solid race at Ascot and is entitled to take his chance this Saturday.
“One thing is he has to be drawn high and close to the rail as he hangs badly to the right. That’s the way he is - there’s no physical problem with him. I just hope that one day we get lucky with him in a race like this.”
In other running plans, Mazaaya - also owned by Saif Ali - has her first start since joining the Lanigan string.
The three-year-old Cozzene filly contests a 1m 2f handicap at Salisbury on Friday night.
